In early August, Chinese first supercapacitor energy storage low-floor tram officially rolled off the production line. Three core systems loaded in the tram, including propulsion system, auxiliary converting system and network control system, are developed by CRRC Times Electric. It is a significant milestone for CRRC Times Electric to promote technologies and develop market of low-floor propulsion system.

The first low-floor tram is jointly developed by CRRC Times Electric and CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., regarded as one of major science and technology projects of Hunan Province. Its successful development filled several industry blanks in China.

The independently designed low-floor tram is China's first low-floor tram consisting of four single modules, which is driven by longitudinal coupled independent wheel to realize 100% low-floor technology; by adopting overhead contact system-free mode of operation, the tram is powered by on-board supercapacitor energy storage all the way and the charging only takes 30 seconds. Two motor driving systems, i.e. asynchronous motor and permanent magnet motor, have been developed for the tram, where these two motors are compatible with each other on the external interface. Their core technologies are completely independent intellectual property rights owned by us.
